Research question
How do BLS knowledge and skills change at six-month reassessment?
Method and context
Single-group study of 64 analyzed participants from 69 eligible; online instruction, WhatsApp refreshers and six-month knowledge/manikin-skill tests.
Study summary
Adjacent individual emergency-skill evidence in disaster volunteers; CPX team command and patient outcomes were not tested.
Findings
Mean knowledge declined from 89.45 to 79.92 and skills from 63.14 to 55.70 at six months despite refresher access.
Contribution
Illustrates separate knowledge and observed-performance measures with intervening learning activities documented.
Interpretation limits
Our appraisal: no control group or baseline skill test; refreshers are a co-intervention. Five of 69 did not complete training; additional follow-up attrition is not separately reported.
A question for further research
Project proposal: reassess volunteer scenarios at six months, separating knowledge, observed actions and refresher exposure.
A starting point for a study design: extend the literature search, specify methods and outcomes, and assess ethics requirements for the data and participants.
Connect evidence to KSEC / OBE
Project-proposed critical-appraisal evidence, not research findings or accreditation criteria from the original authors.
- K
- Explain the question, concepts and findings with locators in the original.
- S
- Compare methods, variables and limitations with another study before designing a test or CPX.
- E
- Separate reported results from your proposals, cite originals and examine implications for vulnerable groups.
- C
- Record responses to critique and revisions after new evidence. Observe behaviour repeatedly, not from a single reading.
